Chocolate Biscuits or “Chocolate Nest”

Chocolate Biscuits or “Chocolate Nest”

Once again a sweet recipe on the blog…I promise I’m planning to put some savory recipes here really soon. But these little chocolate nest are very good and easy to make. I definitely wanted to share the recipe with you. Moreover, as you already know, I love all kind of biscuits. The savory ones (you can find recipes here and here) and the sweet ones. Cookies, sablés, plain or with different flavors, chocolate, jam, lemon… I like to eat them with a comforting cup of hot tea. And it can also be a great gift for friends and family. It’s always nice to receive a homemade treat 😉.

For all of these reasons, I have a cookbook that I love at home, Martha Stewart’s Cookies : The very best treats to bake and to share. I recommend it if you like to have a jar of biscuits at home for unexpected guess. Or just because, like me, you love to treat yourself 😁.

I have tried a lot of recipes in this cookbook. And these chocolate nest are one of our favorite. Everyone enjoy them at home, young and old alike 😉. They are simple to bake and very cute with their chocolate heart.

Enough talking, let’s go to the recipe now!!

Chocolate Biscuits

Prep Time40 minutes
Cook Time20 minutes
Total Time1 hour
Servings: 25 biscuits

Ingredients

Biscuits dough

  • 115 g butter at room temperature
  • 100 g icing sugar
  • 175 g flour
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Chocolate ganache

  • 45 g butter at room temperature
  • 85 g dark chocolate
  • 1 tsp maple syrup ((I didn't put it, there was enough sugar for me :)))

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven at 180 °C.
  • In the stand mixer with the flat beater, mix the butter, icing sugar, salt and vanilla during 2 min at medium speed to obtain a smooth mix.
  • Add the flour and mix again on low speed until you obtain a ball. Don't overwork the dough, we don't need to develop the gluten here!
  • Roll the dough in small pieces of a walnut size and put them on a baking tray covered with baking paper. Leave some space between them, they will spread a bit.
  • Cook in the oven for 10 min. Put the tray out of the oven and make a hole in the middle of the biscuits with a measuring spoon (you can do it with your thumb but it's hot!)
  • Put back the tray in the oven for 8-9 min, they just need to be slightly golden, not brown.
  • Then, take them out of the oven and reshape the hole if necessary. Let it cool.
  • While the biscuits are in the oven, make the ganache. Put the chocolate and butter to melt together and (add the maple syrup if using).
  • Mix well with a whisk until you have a smooth mix.
  • Fill up the hole and leave it at room temperature to cool down.

Notes

Before putting them in a box, a jar or if you need to transport them, it may be a good idea to put the biscuits in the fridge for 30 min. Then, you can place them on top of each other.
But if you are not in a hurry, they can stay at room temperature and you can keep them in an airtight container.

Enjoy!!
